Vinted Users Express Displeasure Over Sizing Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its size classifications for women's and children's clothes but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Digital Channels Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a different size category versus the original listing because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches other platforms.
They have suggested members to review their products and update the measurements by hand if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Changes
Before the change, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the size labels have been reassigned - such as a large size was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Accounts
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Necessary Adjustments
A different user, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she said.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification to the app has proved unpopular: earlier, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options following member complaints.
