The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
