The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh installment, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh season."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
