The Blue Jays Secure World Series Meeting Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden championship series since 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Down by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for this squad, our city, the nation," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "This is such an incredible feeling."

Springer has now slugged 23 total October home runs, placing him third in history trailing only Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another player on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that moment except for Springer with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the only MLB franchise never to appear in a World Series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" after his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts this season.

"This is a unique group. Sadly that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this one," he continued.

Toronto secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
