Iran Reports Attack on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.

Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and continuing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is not yet known and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.

The statement noted wreckage fell on a populated district in the capital, causing some structural damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
