Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Worries.

'Serious blow' for the touring side as Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the playing area early on day two in the Melbourne Test against Australia.

The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left leg immediately following a delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.

The England team stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time on the sidelines for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the series beginning on 4 January starts on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has been without fast bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and another paceman because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was added to the party to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, managing only three wickets.

He was omitted of the third Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, and scoring 28 runs with the bat as one of just three England players to get into double digits.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he came back for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of the fifth over, he sent down a variation to the batsman and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out of the third.
